Ring Of Combat Returns To Atlantic City
With Double Main Event Friday, February 20th
at the Tropicana Casino & Resort
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (January 20, 2009) – One of
Atlantic City's longest running sporting events, Ring of Combat, proudly
announces that its 23rd event will take place on Friday, February 20
at the world-famous Tropicana Casino & Resort.
Ring of Combat XXIII will feature a huge card headlined by two main
event fights with major title implications.
In the first main event, the ROC Heavyweight Championship will be decided
as undefeated Bret Kohan (3-0-0) faces off against champion Joe "Apocalypse" Abouata
(4-1-0).
Kohan has emerged from Ricardo Almeida's camp as one of the heaviest
hitters around. As versatile as he is heavy handed, Kohan has kept his
opponents on the lookout for both knockouts and submissions. In his last
fight he scored a stunning knockout victory over Fernando Rivera. Now,
he goes for the gold.
Abouata, fighting on behalf of Alex Wilkie's Warriors, will be making
his second defense of the ROC Heavyweight crown. Abouata finished his
last two fights with a vicious rear naked choke, and his punching power
has proven to take an extreme toll on his opponents. In this fight, Abouata
hopes to emerge with his championship gold still in tact.
In the second main event, Alexandre Moreno (6-1-0) battles Rafael Sapo
(4-1-0) to determine the new ROC Middleweight Champion.
Coming out of Marco Alvan's Team Link, and being a teammate of UFC superstar
Gabriel Gonzaga, Moreno has gained a reputation as a submission expert.
Having scored all of his six professional victories by submission chokes,
Moreno is going to be looking to continue the trend with this fight.
However, he faces another submission expert in Sapo. Also with brazilian
jiu-jitsu training from Ricardo Almeida and multiple submission victories,
Sapo will definitely be ready for a ground war against Moreno. Will one
of these submission pros get a taste of their own medicine?
Ring of Combat is Atlantic City's longest running mixed martial arts
promotion, and has proven to be a successful and competitive venue for
fighters. Top fighters who began their careers with Ring of Combat include
Matt Serra, Frank Edgar, Josh Kosheck, Kurt Pellegrino, and Phil Baroni.
